StarFabric PCI Extension General and technical information
The PCI-Extension articles extend the PCI/CompactPCI bus by adding extra PCI slots.
- 4 PCI slots available
- 32- or 64-bit PCI cards can be used
- Cable length between assemblies up to 15 m
- Standard CAT5 cables can be used
- No additional software required
- Completely transparent connection
- can be extended with an additional Fabric-Switch
Available as a box, board or cassette, for individual networking with the Fabric 6 Port Switch.
Power supply connections
Only the 3.3 V voltage is required to operate the extension board itself.
The main operating voltages of +5 V, +3.3 V, ±12 V and GND are supplied via ATX plug-in connector X1.

Plug connector JU1
Plug connector JU1 connect the PSON pin of ATX plug-in connector X1 to GND.
When a switch is connected to JU1, the ATX power supply unit can be switched on and off via this switch.
Plug connector X52
A jumper placed on this plug connector can be used to connect the 3.3 VAUX voltage to slots X100-X400: Place the jumper on pins 1-2 for X100, on pins 3-4 for X200, on pins 5-6 for X300 and on pins 7-8 for X400.
Switch SW600
If SW600.2 (BRIDGE-EN) is set to OFF, then the extension board is operated in the bridge mode. Setting the switch to ON selects the gateway only mode.
If SW600.3 (M66EN) is closed, the system can only work with 33 MHz.
If the switch is open, the system operates with the frequency of the PCI cards used (33 MHz or 66 MHz).
Since only 33 MHz are permitted for VI/O = 5 V, the switch must always be set to ON in this case.
Switch SW600.4 (PLLCLKGO) must be set to OFF.
LED500
The PCI RESET LED is lit when the PCI reset is active. This reset resets the extension board and all plug-in boards.
LED601
The red POWERUP RESET LED is active during power-up or when the voltages on the extension board drop below the permissible 3.3 V operating voltage or 1.5 V internal voltage. This reset resets the extension board and all plug-in boards.
LED800
The green LED indicates that the 1.5 V internal voltage required for operation is available.
Special features of the 3.3 V, 64-bit variant:
- StarFabric Link1 X701
Connecting the second link in parallel in case of 64-bit/66 MHz data traffic increases the speed. - Faston tabs X2-X6
The Faston tabs are used for alternative or additional current injection. - JTAG plug-in connector X800
A JTAG controller can be connected to this plug-in connector. - Pin assignment X800

- Button X601
The RESET button resets the extension board along with all the plug-in cards. After a reset, the registers of the following ICs must be reinitialized, and LED601 lights up. - PCI interrupt status LED
LED501 is lit red while a card triggers an A interrupt for slot X400.
LED502 is lit red while a card triggers an A interrupt for slot X300.
LED503 is lit red while a card triggers an A interrupt for slot X200.
LED504 is lit red while a card triggers an A interrupt for slot X100. - Service LED600
This LED is lit blue when the chip is not operational. - Voltage LED
LED801 is lit green when the VI/O voltage required for operation is available.
LED802 indicates when the +3.3 V voltage required for operation is available, and LED803 is lit green when the +5 V voltage is available.
