Powerbackplane 3 U variant L4 P47 connector

The backplane is designed for all CompactPCI power supply units which comply with the PICMG 2.11 Power Interface Specification and are equipped with the P47 power plug-in connector.

The backplane is designed for connection to all Hartmann backplanes. The backplanes are designed for installation in a 19" rack with 3 U. They can be mounted directly on the profile rail of the rack.

The installation width is 8 HP. The backplanes can be mounted in this mounting grid without any gap. Cascading and HOT-SWAP operation are possible.

Hartmann backplanes are preassembled and operational. The user normally does not have to carry out any modifications or adjustments.

Attention:

After connecting the input voltage, dangerous voltages may be present at the backplane.

When connecting the backplane, please observe the relevant countryspecific or international standards for interaction with dangerous voltages.

Power supply unit plug-in connectors X1, X2, X3 and X4

The feed of the supply voltage for the power supply unit takes place through the P47 power plug-in connectors X1, X2, X3 and X4 to the Pins 45 to 47.

Current supply connections

For connection of the operating voltages of a Backplane, which are +12 V, +5 V, +3.3 V and GND, four M3 screw connections are provided next to one another at a distance of 10.16 mm (.4"). A bus bar is already mounted on these screw connections. The auxiliary operating voltage –12 V is output through an M3 screw connection.

Chassis-GND connection X398

A continuous, electrically conductive chassis-GND surface is affixed in the installation area of the backplane on the rack.
An M3 screw connection is available for connection of the housing ground.
Through the additional installation of a connection bar, the chassis-GND can be connected to GND with low resistance.

In smaller systems this connection can be made as a neutral point for the housing ground.

In larger systems a suitable place for the neutral point for the housing ground must be found.

By standard, a capacitor which couples CHA-GND with LOGIC-GND is wired next to the fastening bores at each slot. A 1 MΩ resistor ensures the discharge of the capacitors and the discharge of electrostatic currents.

This enables an EMC proof installation of the backplane on the rack.

Plug X42

By standard, the power supply units are automatically started through the integrated microprocessor circuit. The signal EN- (X1-X4 Pin 27), which is connected to PS-ON (X_ATX, X_ATX2 Pin 14), is connected to GND with the plug X42.
The power supply unit can be started through external wiring to X42 as an alternative.

Utility plug-in connectors X_UTIL and X_UTIL2

The probe signals from the power supply unit to the backplane and monitoring units to be supplied, external LEDS or the like, are sent to the plug-in connectors X_UTIL and X_UTIL2.

The Hartmann CompactPCI backplanes are equipped with the 10-pin plug-in connector and the Hartmann VME Backplane (ANSI/VITA 1-1994) with the 14-pin plug-in connector. By doing so, a simple 1:1 connection of the power backplane to the backplane, which protects against polarity reversal, is established.

ATX plug-in connectors X-ATX1 and X_ATX2

In addition to the screw connections and bus bars, two ATX plug-in connectors are integrated onto the backplane.
In doing so, the current supply for the CompactPCI backplane with ATX plug-in connectors can be plugged in through a prefabricated cable - protected against polarity reversal - in a highly efficient and cost-effective manner.

Fans and drive plug-in connectors X12 and X13

Two 4-pin power output plug-in connectors on the reverse side of the backplane can be used for the supply of external drives and devices with +5 V and +12 V.

IPMB plug-in connector X_IPMB

A separate 5-pin plug-in connector for IPMB expansion is implemented on the backplane.

Current distribution plug-in connector X_SHARE

A 4-pin CURRENT SHARE plug-in connector is wired on the backplane. It can pass along the signals to a second power backplane.
Through the CURRENT SHARE signals, power supply units connected in parallel can be operated with symmetrical loading.

Comment:

Since implementation and timing of V1 SHARE, V2 SHARE and V3 SHARE vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, we recommend only operating the power supply units of one manufacturer in parallel

Solder bridge BR1

+12 V Sense is connected on the power backplane directly to +12 V through the bridge BR1.

Testing points

Since -5V of X_ATX1 and X_ATX2 are not used, Pin18 of X_ATX1 is connected to the testing point TP31 and Pin18 of X_ATX2 to the testing point TP33.
Since +5V STDBY of X_ATX1 and X_ATX2 are not used, Pin 9 of X_ATX1 is connected to the testing point TP32 and Pin 9 of X_ATX2 to the testing point TP34.
Since PRST- is not available on the plug-in connectors X1 – X4, PRST- was only sent by X_UTIL PIN1 to the testing point TP39. From there, additional wiring can be implemented.
The signal PS-ON Pin 14 of X_ATX1 and X_ATX2, which is connected to INH#, is connected to TP41.

Switches

Through the switch SW2, the minimum quantity of power supply units for operation in a redundant system is determined.
No adjustments are carried out by the user at the switches SW3, SW4 and SW5. The switches are preset as open.

Backplane addressing with SW201- SW204

Through the DIP switches, SW201 and SW204, a different logical address which is set with the switches GA0-GA3 can be assigned to each power supply unit in the system. Power supply units which support the System Management Bus can analyse this information

Switches 1 to 3 are to be configured appropriately for setting the address.

The address which is set is available to the power supply unit for further analysis.

The possibility of geographic localisation of equivalent components is of great importance with redundant systems in HOT-SWAP operation, in particular.

Version L4 Professional (max. 2400W)

With the version L4 Professional, all components, as described above, are wired by standard. The standard slot distance is 8 HP. Other slot distances are available on request. This version is equipped with software for error recognition at power supply units.

Version L4 Eco (max. 2400W)

The version "L4 Eco" is a low-cost alternative to the professional version described above. This version is supplied without error recognition software.
